Demi Drape Top, Version 2

Karla made a great point when she suggested that I make multiples of the Demi Drape Top. I got so many compliments on it when I wore it, that I decided to do another! It went together in the same way as My First Version, so no need for a full review. I’ll just give you the result:

Sorry for the harsh lighting – I used my cell phone.

For the fabrics this time, I used Super Soft Rayon Jersey in Bright Turquoise for the main fabric, with Super Soft Rayon Jersey in Bright Aqua for the contrast cami.

Here’s a tip on working successfully with this pattern. I recommend basting all your pieces together before sewing the final seams. I did that here:

I basted the two front pieces together, of course, but I also basted the major seam lines, except for one. Guess which of these underarm seams was basted before I ran it under the serger, and which one wasn’t?

Exhibit A

Exhibit B

If you guessed the Exhibit A was the one that I didn’t baste first, then give yourself a rounding huzzah and pat yourself on the back. It only takes a couple of extra minutes to carefully baste the seams so everything matches, but the results are the difference between ‘okay’ and ‘perfecto’. While no one is going to be looking under my arm at this seam (or if they do, they are going to get dope-slapped into next week), it’s really critical for seams that are visible, like where side and waistline seams cross. Do it, folks. To quote that old L’Oreal ad, you’re worth it.

Once again, this pattern is a winner. I heartily recommend it!

Happy sewing!
