Pattern Description: Stylish, comfortable walk short with side angled pocket, belts loops and optional jetted back pockets.
Can I just tell you? One of my favorite things about StyleArc patterns, besides the superb drafting, is learning new sewing dialect. No really, I’m serious. Did I ever tell you about the first time I went to Paris? I went to a tres haute seller of tissus, and while I speak passable French, I don’t know some of the technical terms, but the vendeuse and I struck up a connection over sewing and I learned a bunch of new terms that day. I love sewing!
Oh yeah, back to the review.
Sizing: 6-30. I made a size 10.
Fabric Used: Medium weight linen in black from Gorgeous Fabrics. It’s sold out, but This One is a pretty close approximation.
For the waistband facing, I used a cotton from Androsia in the Bahamas that I bought ten or so years ago.
Needle/Notions Used: Universal 70/10 needle. Pro-Weft interfacing from Fashion Sewing Supply. Silk organza selvage. Thread. I think that’s pretty much it.
Tips Used during Construction: Sew from Wide to Narrow (Video Here)

My favorite Way to Insert Welt Pockets
Did it look like the photo or drawing when you got through? Yes
How were the instructions? I didn’t use them, though I did note that StyleArc has added a Bunch of Tutorials to their website, including inserting a fly and making welt pockets. Here’s a detail shot of the back pockets:

Sorry for the overexposed picture, Game of Thrones was starting.
Construction Notes: I cut out waistband facings from the linen, and I interfaced them, but after thinking about it for a little bit, I realized that it would be pretty heavy, so I pulled out the trusty old Androsia cotton that I used in my Hobbit Pants denim shorts (yes, I cut them down and they look AWESOME).

Took out some gappage and used cotton instead of self-facing.
I also changed the back welt pockets so they would be deep enough to hold my cell phone. I pulled about two inches out of the back waistline. Other than that I didn’t need to do too much. The StyleArc crotch curve is closer to an L than a J, so I left it as-is.
Likes/Dislikes: Shorts! Spring! StyleArc!
No real dislikes.
Would you do it again? Would you recommend it? Yes and yes.
Conclusion: This is a well-drafted, classic pattern. Here are pictures of the front and back.

It’s not completely finished – I need to put the hook/eyes in the waistband, then I can pack it up to go see the boys march at Disney. And have dinner with Karla!
Happy sewing!
